About the project

One of the greatest challenges currently facing the EU is to tackle the climate crisis, while fostering sustainable economic growth. These assumptions were at the root of European Green Deal (EGD) which is currently a leading EU fundamental policy shift towards sustainability in its three dimensions: economic, environmental and social ones. Although State aids (often known as subsidies) have a key role to play in financing and supporting the EU in fulfilling the EGD’s sustainability objectives, the EU State aid system has not adapted its functions to sustainability challenges.

GREENAID’s overall objective is to design an innovative approach to granting State aid promoting a paradigm shift towards economic, environmental and social sustainability, thus contributing to the achievement of EGD goals. To reach this objective, obstacles in fostering sustainability will be investigated in three EU Member States (Germany, Poland, Italy), and the same will provide hands-on practical experience to assess the viability of the proposed alternative approach.

The project is carried out at the Law Department of the University of Turin (UNITO) under the supervision of Prof. Roberto Caranta.

The project received funding from University of Warsaw under the Action I.1.4/IV.2.1.“Implementation of the financing programme for projects submitted to IF MSCA competitions within the EC initiative »Seal of Excellence»
